In my experience i have made plans for my career path, how to get a raise, how to get a girlfriend, how to own a business, how to get a loan and a wedding. I never thought about making a plan for being married. I found myself being married and each of us having on our own plans. The closest we came to having a plan for being married was who would pay particular bills.
